Uptown is proud to be able to represent and showcase the Melbourne sound. The best improvised music from other parts of the world tour here, but Melbourne has a particular sound all of it's own. Sometimes described as krusty, krunchy, more experimental or streetwise, it is always backed up by the incredible strength of the players here. And while it may sometimes be more rough around the edges than slick, there remains a level of musicianship on a par with anywhere in the world (amply demonstrated in the Charlie Haden Liberation Orchestra ensemble at Federation Square 2009).
